William Freeman Whitson, 62, a printer for the Southern Illinoisan, died at his home in Murphysboro early today following an illness of two years.

He was born in Murphysboro in 1895 and had worked for Murphysboro newspapers over 50 years.

He was married in 1916 to the former Helen Bullar, who survives. He also leaves a nephew, C. C. Berger, whom he reared, his mother, Mrs. Nealie Whitson of Murphysboro, and sisters Mrs. J. L. Riggs and Mrs. Ray Nausley, both Murphysboro.

Whitson was a member of the Centenary Methodist Church. He was a member of the orchestra of the church and choir director. Hee was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Murphysboro and was treasurer of the lodge. He was a member of the Beausant Commandry 86 of Carbondale, the Low Twelve Club and past patron of the Eastern Star. He was past watchman of the Shepherds of the White Shrine.

Whitson was adviser and treasurer of the International Supreme Council of the Order of DeMolay 1888. He was a director of the Murphysboro Savings and Loan Assn., a member of the International Typographical Union, and a member of the Musicians Union.

Friends may call at the Meyer-Denny Funeral home in Murphysboro from 7 p. m. today until noon Sunday, when the body will he removed to the Centenary Methodist Church for services at 3 p. m. The Rev. 0. H. Switzer and the Rev. Oscar 0. Maerker will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Memorial Cemetery.
