George B.Alvord 73 years old died today after a months illness. He was a suffer from asthma for many years. He came with his parents to Bement in 1855 and for a time they lived in what is known as the Half-Way house between Monticello and Bement. In the fall of that year the family moved into Bement and lived in the 2nd house built in the town.

He and Eunice Upton of Charlemont,Mass were married in Decatur Sept 20, 1868 by the Rev. Ewing. They celebrated their 50th anniversary at LaFayette, Ind. where their sons lived. The day previous their many friends called,the Masons going in a body. He recalled the occasion of their marriage and said that they went to the Revere house in a bus drawn by four horses,the mud being hub deep. With the exception of 7 years when they lived in Kansas they since have been residents of Bement. He was the 2nd oldest resident.

He leaves his wife and daughter Nellie of Bement, sons, I. N. and Lewis U, Albert C. of Lafayette, Ind. his brothers, Alvord of Decatur Harry of Mansfield, Ohio.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
