Deloris Van Erem, 84, daughter of Earl and Della (Reisner) Leighty was born July 12, 1925, at Seneca, SD, and died Wednesday June 9, 2010 at Sanford USD Medical Center, Sioux Falls, SD.
She grew up in Seneca where her parents operated the Leighty Café. In 1943 she attended Beauty School in Watertown, SD. During World War II she worked in the Ship Yards in Seattle, WA.
On July 8, 1946, she was united in marriage to Vincent Van Erem at Big Stone City, SD where they farmed for one year.
In 1948 they moved to Hurley SD and purchased the State Theater which they operated until 1961. She operated Del's Beauty Salon for forty years in Hurley.
Vincent died in 1989.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Orville Leighty in 2003.
Her survivors include her daughter Vikki and son-in-law Greg Van Hull, Brandon; a son Paul Van Erem, Basehor, KS and two ex daughters-in-laws Pam O'Neil and Jackie Anderson; six grandchildren Troy, Tami, John, Dustin, Alex and Vanessa; 10 great-grandchildren Hailey, Mason, Hayden, Makayla, Ava, Grayer, Ryder, Hunter, Charles and Ian.
