"Andrew Austin, son of Andreas and Annie Austin was born July 31, 1872 in Winnebago County, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. On May 22, 1899 he was united in marriage to Julia Johnson. The first seventeen years of their married life was spent in the vicinity of Crystal Lake. In 1916 they moved to a farm four miles north of Thompson. They lived there eleven years after which they moved to a farm two miles northeast of Thompson, which they purchased and on which their son, Andy, now lives. In 1945 they moved to their home in Thompson. On December 5 he underwent surgery at the Buffalo Center hospital and on December 18 he suffered a fatal heart attack. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Julia; and by a brother, Oscar. He is survived by three children: Andy and Thelma (Mrs. Arthur Hauan) of Thompson and Lawrence of Chicago, Ill.; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Two sisters and five brothers survive, Mrs. Cora Hall, Preston, Minn., Mrs. Nettie Simms and Gilbert Austin of Covina, Calif., Edwin Austin, Chicago, Ill., Martin Austin, Mason City, Theo. Austin of Thompson and a twin brother, Chris Austin of Crystal Lake. He was a man of quiet, unassuming nature. He will be missed by his family and friends."
