Lester W. Richter Sr.,72,of Columbus,died Sunday,April 9,1995 at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton.

Born June 10,1922,in Shaws Bend,he was the so of Henry and Annie (Hayek) Richter.On Feb. 27,1945,he married Nola Laake.Mr.Richter,a lifelong resident of the Shaw's Bend area,was retired after 36 years with the Texas Highway Department,where he had been an inspector in the engineering department.He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus.

Funeral services were held April 11 at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Father Dan Kahlich officiating.Interment followed in Brune Cemetery in Shaws Bend.Services were under the direction of Henneke Funeral Home of Columbus.

Serving as pallbearers were Jim Guenther,Walker Duncan,Charles Barrett,Jonathon Barrett,Stephen Richter and Tim Liehardt.

Mr.Richter is survived by his wife,of Columbus;daughters and sons-in-law,Judy and Charles Barrett of Columbus,Janice and Walker Duncan of Altair and Joanna and Jim Guenther of Marble Falls;sons and daughters-in-law Leonard and Lisa Richter of Columbus,Lloyd and Jeanie Richter of Conroe and Lester Jr. and Sharon Richter of Kingwood;brothers Ernest Richter of New Ulm,Louis of Lone Oak and Connie Richter of Wharton;sister Leona New of Columbus;and 13 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother,Adolph Richter.
