Hazel Marie Bankson, age 72 of Galena, Kan. passed away at 6:35 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003 at her home after a short illness.
Born April 16th, 1931 in Joplin, she was the daughter of the late William Henry 'Hank' Anderson and Arietta Ann Sweet Anderson and lived in Galena her lifetime. She was a bookkeeper and manager of Alley's Bowling Alley, later Crown Lanes on old 66 in Joplin. She was an Avon Representative for 37 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Galena. On July 1, 195 she married James Edward Bankson at Galena. He Survives.
Additional survivors include two daughters, Deborah Briggs and her husband, Don of Carthage, MO., Connie Smith and her husband, Chet of Galena; one son, Ken Bankson of Chicago, Ill; one brother, Ralph Anderson of Galena; one sister, Norman Peterson of Villa Ridge, MO; three grandchildren, Alisha Benefiel of Carl Junction, MO; Jake Doss of Carthage, Keith Briggs of Galena; four great-grandsons, Justin Slater, Brett and Tyler Benefiel and Kaiden Briggs.
She was proceded in death by a brother, Norman Anderson in 2001; a grandson, Kevin Briggs in 1990; and a granddaughter, Leslie Diane Benge in 1967.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:pm Wednesday, Oct. 22 at Camp Joy Church, 3125 West 2th Street in Joplin with Jeff Martin and Alan Gaines officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Galena with Kelly Anderson, Chuck Sweet, Jerry Murry, Keith Briggs, Jake Doss and Doug Benefiel serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8pm, Tuesday at the mortuary.
Memorial contributions may be made to Camp Joy.
