Connie Marie Smith, age 66, Galena, Kansas, passed away at 5:49 p.m. Monday, May 4, 2020 at Freeman West Hospital.

Connie was born April 27, 1954 in Joplin to the late James Bankson and Hazel (Anderson) Bankson and had lived in the Galena area most of her life.

A graduate of Galena High School, Connie retired from UPS after 28 years of service. Following retirement, she worked for the Galena school district in various rolls.

Connie was a people person and never met a stranger. She was always helping others, involving herself with benefits. Connie was a faithful member of the Christian Motorcycle Association, where she often volunteered for benefit rides. She was also an active member with the VFW for over 20 years.

She loved her family with all her heart. She attended all the grandchildren sporting events and enjoyed spoiling them with her famous peanut clusters. Some of her greatest passions were watching grandsons, Brett show and work cattle and Tyler playing baseball. She will be missed by everyone that knew and loved her. Connie will live in the hearts and memories of all those she touched.

She married Chester Smith on July 13, 1996 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. He survives at the home.

Survivors include two children, Alisha Benefiel, Carthage, Jake Doss and wife, Twila, Joplin; step children, Chester 'Skip' Smith, Jr. and wife, Shelley, Wichita, Kansas, Kristy Hutchison and husband, Kenneth, Pittsburg, Jeffery Smith and wife, Dana, Udall, Kansas; a sister, Deborah Wade and husband, P.D., Joplin; one brother, Ken Bankson, Broken Arrow, OK; grandchildren, Brett Benefiel, Jake 'Tyler' Benefiel, Kendra Brand and husband, Benjamin, Kayne Hutchison, Kristian Hutchison, Kayla Hutchison, Kole Hutchison, Casadee Smith, Crayton Smith, Kynleeigh Smith, Dallas Randen and Brett Price; nephew Keith Briggs and wife, Brooke; great nephews, Trent and Trace Briggs and “Momma” Betty Sweet.

In addition to her parents, Connie was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Karly Hutchison and nephew, Kevin Briggs.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Motorcycle Association, in care of the mortuary.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary of Joplin, Missouri.
