Mary Ann Teney was the daughter of John R. Teney and his wife Sarah Ann Faulkner. Mary probably was born in Dearborn Co., IN. Mary's first husband was J. B. Brush, whom she married in Mason Co., IL, they had no children. Next she married Oscar Peter Marshall on August 5, 1869 in Mason Co., IL. The family moved to Chautauqua Co., KS in the late 1870's. The next move was to Lonoke Co., AR in 1912. Mary was blind at the time of her death, which did not prevent her cooking lunch for her grandson, Cecil Marshall, when he was working in the fields by her house.
