Simon was the son of Simon and Margaret Keeney Keeney. In 1795, he came to Keeney Settlement in Onondaga County, NY along with several others from Connecticut to claim bounty land from the Revolution. Records show he served in the Revolution from Connecticut and also later in 1798-1802 as a member of the NY militia. He married Mary (Polly) Bates on 23 Jan 1785. They had eight children: Polly, Jeremiah, Simon, Champion, Elijah, John, Theodocia, and Abigail. Simon was a life-long farmer and one of the founders of the First Baptist Church in Fabius. He was first buried in the Keeney Settlement Cemetery and after the Civil War, he and his wife were reburied at Evergreen Cemetery, Fabius.
