Obera was born in N.Y. and married in 1854 Charles Calhoun(Cahoon, Calhoon). They lived in N.Y. until 1870 when they (including 90 year old Grandpa, Jared) relocated to Iowa to farm and raise sheep. The had 6 children in N.Y. Emma-1857, John Clarence-1859, Ida Obera-1862, George Moore-1864, Henry James "Hank"-1866, Abbie Florette-1869 and in Iowa, Mary-1870. Shortly after they arrived in Iowa, Obera died.
