From "The Evans Family" by Robert Wesley Evans and compiled 1984-1994
Thomas, the third son of Owen and Mary (Davis), was born 21 May 1737. He was married at the tender age of 17 to Hannah Rees the daughter of Thomas and Mary. They were married 25 Nov 1754 at Christ Church in Philadelphia. There were ten children; Rachel (1755- ), Mary (1756- ), Owen (1758-1812), Benjamin (1760-1830), twins Samuel and David (1762-1762), Hannah (1764- ), Elizabeth (1766- ), who married Paul Casselbury, James (1770-1803), and Edward (1772-1822). Thomas died 13 Mar 1810, and Hannah passes away 25 Apr 1813.
A story related by Mary E. Reynolds indicates that Owen, the father of Thomas, remarried and the stepmother was very neglectful of Thomas and the money intended for Thomas' education was not used for that purpose. Consequently, he grew up intellectually disadvantaged. He also developed a love of liquor. The source of this story was Mary's mother, the granddaughter of Thomas. The plausibility of portions of this story is tenuous as Mary, Thomas' natural mother did not die until 1761, seven years after his marriage to Hannah. Also his father, Owen, died in 1753 the year before his wedding. Thomas inherited two valuable farms, entailed upon him according to English custom. One of the farms was traded to the proprietor of an Inn (possibly the William Penn Inn in Gwynedd, Pa. where there is a plaque honoring a Thomas Evans) and the other one was settled by Thomas and Hannah.
