Kenneth E. Olson, 87, longtime resident of Hibbing and Side Lake, died Wednesday, June 2, 2010, in his home. He was born Feb. 24, 1923, in Bear River, the son of Elmer and Emma (Nelson) Olson.

He attended school in Togo, and graduated from Grand Rapids High School at the top of his class. Kenneth went on to study carpentry for two years. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Kenneth was stationed in Japan during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Dolores (Flank) Ervasti on June 20, 1959, in Hibbing.

Kenneth worked as a self-employed contractor, and craftsmanship was of highest importance. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, the Carpenters Union and Guild, the Hibbing Elks and Moose clubs. He was an outdoorsman, card player, and he liked using reclaimed materials to make various projects.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Dolores; children, Darrell (Mary Jo) Ervasti, Candace Ervasti, and Leanne Ervasti; sister, Myrna (Donald) Persson; grandchildren: Aaron, Nathan, Simone, John, Fletcher and Raegan; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Ernie and Allan; and a sister, Alice.

Burial was in the Maple Hill Cemetery, in Hibbing.
