Obit: Caroline A. Etler, 89, of Anthon died Thursday, October 25, 2001, at the Correctionville Nursing and Rehab Center, Correctionville, Iowa, following a lengthy illness. Services were held at the Anthon United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kent Kastler officiating. Burial followed in Oak Hill Cemetery, Anthon, under direction of the Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon. Caroline Anna Etler was born June 29, 1912, near Lawton, Iowa, the daughter of James and Friedarieka (Ronnau) Drossel. She graduated from Climbing Hill High School with the Class of 1931. She married Ralph B. Etler on December 31, 1931, in Sioux City. The couple lived and farmed southwest of Anthon until retiring in 1974 when they moved into Anthon. Ralph died April 24, 1977. She had been a resident of the Correctionville Nursing and Rehab Center since 1996. Caroline enjoyed baking, gardening, painting, woodworking and was an active volunteer in many community groups. She had been honored as a nursing home volunteer and received the Rose Award (Recognition of Service Excellence) for community involvement for the Eastern Star. She received her fifty-year membership in 1994 from the Thomma Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the Anthon United Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Pamela E. Fitchner of Allen, Texas; two sisters, Gertrude Yockey and Margaret Schwarz and her husband, Alvin, all of Anthon, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Mary Alice Drossel of Savannah, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Carey Drossel, Arthur Drossel and James Drossel; a sister, Frances Etler; and a sister-in-law, Dakota Drossel. Pallbearers included Gary Yockey, Doug Drossel, Larry Etler, Raymond Walker, Art Drossel, James Etler, Larry Huffman and Walter Schwarz.
