Joe Morales, 85, of Vanderbilt, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999.

He was born Feb. 19, 1914, in Leon, GTO Mexico, to the late Fortino and Nicolasa Hernandez Morales. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 and received the Asiatic Pacific Company and Philippine Liberation Medal, both with two bronze stars, Good Conduct Medal and one service stripe; five overseas bars and a victory medal, meritorious unit award and a bronze arrowhead with Asiatic Pacific Campaign medal. He was a self-employed mechanic and retired from Missouri Pacific Railroad. He was Lutheran.

Survivors: brother, Frank Morales of Houston; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: wife, Leonora Garcia Morales; sister, Maria Luisa Gamez; and brother, Manuel Morales.

Visitation will begin at 7 p.m. today at Artero Memorial Chapels.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, the Rev. Jay Simonsen officiating.

Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Victoria with military honors under the auspices of VFW, DAV, CWV, American Legion and Marine Corps League. Artero Memorial Chapels, Victoria, (361) 575-3212.
