Ora "Kate" (Burks) Ilene Hoy
Ora Ilene "Kate" (Burks) Hoy, 90, Marshfield, passed away at 11:05 a.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2010, in her daughter's home. Ilene was born December 20, 1919, to Jesse and Ida Burks in Fordland.
After serving as a USO hostess during World War II in Springfield, she met and later married Duwane F. Hoy on December 13, 1945. To this union, three children were born, Rodney, Roger, and Cheryl. Ilene lived most of her life in or around Fordland, except for the 26 years she lived in International Falls, Minn. After her husband retired they moved back to Marshfield and remained there until their deaths.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her siblings, Beula Eva, Ella, Susan, Jesse Clive, Guy, Everett, Herschel and Georgia.
Survivors include three children, Rodney Hoy, Springfield, Roger Hoy, Marshfield, Cheryl Carlson and her husband Tim, Marshfield; two granddaughters, Carrie Hopkins, Springfield, and Mindy Day and husband Mark, Marshfield; three great-grandchildren, Kendra and Dylan Hopkins and Carter Day; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 5, 2010, in the Fraker Funeral Home, Marshfield. Burial will be in the Fordland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
The family suggests memorial contributions can be made to Hospice Compassus. They would like to extend their special appreciation to Martha Myers and the staff at Marshfield Place and Marshfield Care Center.
