This William McLeran is the son of William McLeran b 1798>who is the son of William E. Mc Leran b 1740 arriving in Barnet, VT about 1800 from Stirlingshire/Stirling, Scotland.
YET, on this William's marker, the very large monument in MAPLE GROVE CEMETERY, you can see he is referred to as Wm McLeran "SR" below Betsy "wife of...".
ALSO this same William is referred to as William McLeran "SR" on the Iowa death & burial record with his parents listed as "Wm McLeran & E. Gleason".
In the 1910 US Census for Leroy, Audubon, IA he is listed as W.M. McLeran Sr, age 85, widowed.
QUESTION~WHY is he referred to as "SR" when his father would actually be the SR? His grandfather has the middle initial "E".
This William has a son William Palmer McLeran and he has a son William Francis McLeran...thankfully for research sake they have distinguished middle names!
That info may be helpful if you are tracing these McLerans and so I have added it here.

William "SR" and wife Betsy Blanchard had these children:
Abbie E b 1852
Simon B b 1854
Gekeb N b 1857
Elsie F b 1861
William Palmer b 1867
George R b 1868
Hubert Morris b 1870
Charles Stuart b 1875
There may be others I am not aware of; my direct McLeran line is thru William E.>William>John Harmon>Theresa Eliza>Charles Swinehart>Roma Swinehart Raper>me.
[The photo of a young William I now believe was of William Palmer McLeran, son of this William.I removed it from this memorial~slb]
