EDITH MILLS BLALOCK

ABBEVILLE. . .Edith Mills Blalock, a resident of Abbeville, died Wednesday night, June 2, 2010, at her home. She was 91.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A. M. Saturday, June 5, 2010, in the Abbeville United Methodist Church with Reverend Fred Fuller and Reverend Ray Kelly officiating. Burial will follow in the Abbeville Memorial Cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 10:30 A. M. Saturday in the Abbeville United Methodist Church Family Life Center.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Abbeville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 100, Abbeville, AL. 36310.

Mrs. Blalock was born and reared in Eufaula, daughter of the late Turner Elijah Mills and Margaret Lee Bruner Mills. She was a graduate of Eufaula High School and attended the University of Alabama. A member of the Floyd Music Club and the Creative Writer's Club, Mrs. Blalock was also a member of the Abbeville United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Circle IV of the United Methodist Women and formerly sang in the church choir.

Mrs. Blalock was retired from the Henry County Board of Education as a secretary at Abbeville High School. In earlier years, she was employed as Store Manager at Olen's Department Store, Cohen's Department Store and Bill's Dollar Store all in Abbeville. Mrs. Blalock was preceded in death by her husband, William Leonard Blalock, a sister, Mildred Bradford and two brothers, Lewis Mills and Wilson T. Mills.

Surviving relatives include three daughters, Linda B. Platt and husband, Buddy, Ellen B. Wright and husband, Richard, all of Abbeville; and Molly Blalock, Dothan; a son, Mike Blalock and wife, June, Abbeville; a sister, Mary Jane Money and husband, Lindy, Abbeville; nine grandchildren, Jeff Platt and wife, Tami, Kip Platt and wife, Meredith, Marie Jenkins and husband, Mike, Barbara Skelton, Brian Preston and wife, Tammy, Kim Preston, Jennifer Warden and husband, Jimmy, Malinda Ash and husband, Charles and Ashley Preston; eleven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Kip Platt, Jeff Platt, Brian Preston, Michael Jenkins, Jimmy Warden, Bradley Gay and Charles Money.
