A SAD DEATH

Last Thursday night about 10:30 o'clock Mrs. B. F. Wood stepped out of the back door of her home and the night being dark she accidentally stepped off into the basement of the new Methodist Church now being dug and which is near the house, and received injuries from which she died Friday morning about 8:00 o'clock. In falling, her head struck some hard substance, causing a blood vessel to burst, thus producing death. Her relatives were at once notified and her children were all here to attend the funeral.

Mother Wood had lived in Milford for the past 20 years and was universally loved by all with whom she came in contact. In 1865 she was converted at Allen's Grove, Wisconsin, and at once united with the Methodist Episcopal Church, of which she has ever since remained a true and consistent member.

Ann Watson was born in Rome, Oneida County, New York, October 16, 1828. She was united in marriage to Mr. B. F. Wood on December 31, 1845 and in 1859 they moved to Iowa, locating near Dubuque. After living in Iowa for two years they went to Wisconsin, where they lived until 1872, when they returned to Iowa and settled in Linn County. In 1881 they came to Milford and remained here ever since. She was the mother of seven children, six of whom reached manhood and womanhood. The eldest son and one daughter, Mrs. H. L. (Kittie) Smith, are now dead, but the others are all living. They are: Mrs. C. H. Wilcox, of Milwaukee, Mrs. Wm. (Julia) Cochren, of Jackson County, Kansas, George, of Linn County, Iowa, and Mrs. R. E. (Carrie) Ewen, of Lake Park, Iowa.

Funeral services were held in the Methodist Episcopal Church last Monday at 2 o'clock p. m., conducted by Rev. Robert H. Reidy, and the remains laid to rest in Okoboji Cemetery.
