Barney Patrick Bergman was born on June 11, 1924 in Springer, OK, the son of William and Mary (Wilde) Bergman. He graduated from high school and began working to help support his family during the war years.

He married Adella Decker and together they raised eight children.

Barney worked at John Deere and also as the Operating Engineer for Kaiser Fertilizer.

Barney spent most of his adult life around the Pryor area. He was a hard-working man. When he wasn't working, he toiled in the garden raising beautiful vegetables. He loved horses and raised Welch ponies. Barney enjoyed time spent discussing politics. A talented carpenter, Barney built his own shop and a tree house, and had recently started a project constructing a horse-drawn cart. Any day spent fishing or hunting was a good day. Barney was truly happy when spending time with his children and grandchildren. They were very special in his eyes. A Catholic by faith, Barney was a member of St. Mark's Parish in Pryor and later a member of the St. Brigid's Parish in Tahlequah.

On Wednesday, September 9, 2009, Barney was called home to his Lord and Savior at St. John's Hospital after a brief illness. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Barney is preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers and sisters, two daughters, Barbara Bergman and Lisa Clark, and one granddaughter, Mary Megan Bergman.

Those left to cherish his memory include his seven children, Carol Bergman of Pryor, OK, Tom Bergman and wife Kathy of Hulbert, OK, James Bergman and wife Regenia of Amarillo, TX, Richard Bergman and wife Terrie of Salina, OK, Evelyn Bergman of Salina, OK, Rita Kay Bergman of Tahlequah, OK and son Bill Bergman and wife Margie of Spanish Fork, UT. He also leaves the mother of his children, Adella Gann of Pryor, OK. His legacy lives on in his nineteen grandchildren, his thirty great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.

Those wishing to send an expression of sympathy are asked to consider St. Brigid Catholic Church, 807 Crafton St. Tahlequah, OK 74464.
