• Services for Sylvester Paul Bergman, 82, Ardmore will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. Timothy O'Toole officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home.
Born Jan. 29, 1920, in Ardmore to the late William and Mary Wilde Bergman, he died Dec. 24, 2002, in the local hospital. He married Virginia Pearl Wagner on Sept. 11, 1941, in Natchitoches, La. She preceded him in death on March 18, 2000.

He was also preceded in death by four sisters, Anna, Katherine, Agnes and Cecilia; and four brothers, John, Frank, Joseph and Anthony.

An Ardmore resident all his life, Mr. Bergman worked as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and flew B-24 Liberator Bombers over Germany.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and was an usher.

Survivors include three sons, David, Lakeridge, Va., Daniel, Norman, and Darryl, Houston; three daughters, Josephine Patricia Lovig, West Branch, Iowa, Pamela Finch, Lancaster, Calif., and Diana Bergman, Ardmore; a sister, Sister Mary Beatrice Bergman, Oklahoma City; a brother, Barnabas Patrick Bergman, Pryor; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Honorary bearers will be J.C. O'Dell, Jerry Williams and Paul Wiles.

Vistation will be from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.
