Former Local Couple Killed in Home Fire:

Thomas A. Stottlemyer, age 59, and his wife, Mrs. Bertha Stottlemyer, age 69, of Vienna, Va., formerly teachers in the Seventh Day Adventist School, corner of Nelle and Twenty-second streets this city, were fatally burned in a blaze in their apartment Saturday night.

Charred bodies of Mr. and Mrs. Stottlemyer were found in the stairway of the apartment, with evidence indicating that they were trying to make their escape when they were caught by flames and smoke.

Mr. and Mrs. Stottlemyer taught at the Seventh Day Adventist school here for three years and resided at 1615 Nellie street. Dr. G.A. Hoppes and other leaders in the church state that the couple was well known among members of the local congregation.

After cremation ashes of the fire victims will be sent to the home of a brother, Frank Stottlemyer, Greenfield.

Mr. and Mrs. Stottlemyer were preaching and teaching in the Virginia city. They formerly preached and taught in Anderson, Harford City and Richmond, Ind. and Dayton, Cleveland and Cincinati, Ohio.

Surviving are a son Hiram, of Toledo, O., and a grandson, Robert who is now serving with the armed forces. Also a brother, Frank Stottlemyer, of near Greenfield, and a sister Clara Shull, of near Pendleton.

Funeral arrangements are held up pending arrival of the son.

Bertha married Thomas Andrew Stottlemyer in Grant Co., Indiana on February 21, 1917.

Hiram was the son of Thomas & his first wife, Oda May (Wilson) Stottlemyer.
