Barbara Ann Simpson, daughter of the late Willie Burris and Pearl Downey Bums, was born December 12, 1936, in Adair County, Kentucky, and departed this life August 23, 1996, at McDowell Skilled Nursing Facility, in Greensburg, Kentucky. She was 59 years, 8 months and 11 days of age. She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Greasy Creek Baptist Church at the time of her death. She united in marriage to Arlon Stanley Simpson on June 12, 1953, and he survives. To this union were born one son and two daughters.

Survivors include: two daughters, Deborah Ann Matney, of Brentwood, Tennessee; and Paulette Lobb, of Greensburg; two brothers, Garnett Burris, of Campbellsville, and Paul Burris, of Elizabethtown; two sisters, Hilda Holmes, of Louisville, and Bell Marie Keltner, of Columbia; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by: a son, James Willie Simpson, on July 2, 1954; a grandson, Benjamin Christie Matney, on October 22, 1979; and four siblings, Ray Burris, Gilbert Burris, Coakley Burris and Catherine Holmes.

The funeral was conducted at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 26, at Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, with burial in Summersville Memory Gardens. Rev. Gleason Bloyd and Rev. Mark Lile officiated. Active pallbearers were Bobby McKinney, Boyd T. Curry, Brent Milby, Doyce Jones, Maxie Houk, Robert Meadows and Jeff Houk. Honorary pallbearers were Carol McKinney, L.B. Meadows, Juanita Houk, Nadine McKinney, Jackie Curry, April Matney, Mildred Jones and Norma Houk.
