Ray Burris, 71, of South Central Avenue in Campbellsville, son of the late Willie Burris and Pearl Downey Burris, was born in Adair County, July 26, 1918. He died at 7:41 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 2, 1989, in Campbellsville after an illness. He attended the First Church of God. He was retired as a heavy equipment operator. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army. He united in marriage to Dimple Corbin March 25, 1944, who preceded him in death July 27, 1984. He is survived by one daughter and three sons, Linda Jeffries of Hodgenville, Ronnie Burris of Jonesville, La., and Ernie Burris and Mike Burris, both of Campbellsville; 10 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; four sisters and three brothers, Catherine Holmes and Barbara Ann Simpson, both of Greensburg, Hilda Holmes of Louisville, Bell Marie Keltner and Coakley Burris, both of Columbia, Paul Burris and Garnett Burris, both of Campbellsville; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by one brother, Gilbert Burris. The funeral was at 3:30 p.m., Monday, Dec. 4, at the Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville by the Rev. William P. Means. Burial was in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens with full military honors by the Taylor County Chapter #70, Disabled American Veterans Honor Guard.
