Information from his obit in the Indiana Gazette newspaper dated Mar 7 1906 :
"When still quite young he went to the west and became a miner. Two years ago he was overtaken by a wind storm and had some sand blown in his eyes, which resulted in his going blind. Soon after this mishap he returned to the old home in this county, and several weeks ago suffered a stroke from which he never recovered."
