" HOMER CAMP. The Passing of the Camps.
For the third time within the year the grim reaper has entered the home of Homer Camp, in Camptown, removing husband and father and the two eldest sons of Homer and Harriet Ingham Camp. -Homer Camp, August 28, 1907 -Cyrus D. Camp, September 3, 1907 -Edward E. Camp, July 22, 1908.
Homer Camp, the last surviving son of William and Jediha Lacey Camp was born March 17, 1823 and was therefore 84 years, 5 months and 11 days old at the time when he laid down the mantel of this earthly life and passed to his reward.
On September 9, 1847, he was married to Harriet Ingham, and had he lived just two weeks longer he would have rounded out his 60th year of married life, for the wife of his youth survives. It seems fitting that more than a mere mention should be made of the passing of the last male member of the family for whom our neighboring village was named.
While Homer Camp may have had his faults, and who has not, it be truthfully said that no man had fewer enemies, nor was held in higher esteem in the entire neighborhood than he. Quiet, unassuming, kind and generous to a fault, he scattered the seed of good fellowship and good citizenship all along the roadway of life. A Universalist in religion, a conscientious believer in the pure principles and ideals of Free Masonry and Odd Fellowship, with which organizations he retained his membership from the time he reached his majority until he "wrapped the mantel of his couch about him and laid down to pleasant dreams." He practiced what he preached in such unostentatious manner that few realized the depth of his love humanity. He suffered long and patiently, and when the final stroke came with the suddenness of lighting's flash he was ready. We miss him now but we shall miss him more as the years go by.
