William Hillabolt was born in Montgomery County, Ohio, October 16, 1835 and died at his home in Pleasantville, Iowa, March 11, aged 69 years, 4 months and 25 days. He moved with his parents to Elkhart County, Indiana in 1840. In 1854 he was married to Rebecca Erb, to which union was born six children, three girls and three boys, four of whom still live to mourn their loss. When about 20 years of age he united with the Lutheran church of Indiana. In 1864 he, with his family, came to Iowa and have lived in or near Pleasantville ever since. During the revival meeting held in Pleasantville several years ago by W.W. Williams, assisted by Mrs. Reedy, he united with the Methodist church and has lived a consistent Christian life ever since. His was a family of eight consisting of 4 brothers and 3 sisters, all of whom have passed before him, thus being the last of his immediate family. He was conscious to the last, speaking of his willingness to go, of his faith in the Saviour; made many arrangements concerning his funeral, where the services should be held, who should preach the funeral service, how his grave should be fixed and what kind of monument should be erected over it. Although he was a very quiet man there was a sunny side to his life that was a cheer to those who knew him best. The funeral services were held Monday, March 13, at 11 a.m. at the M.E. Church in Pleasantville, Iowa conducted by his pastor, Rev. A.H. Adams. Although it was a stormy day, it was a large funeral, for Mr. Hillabolt was held in high esteem by all who knew him. Interment took place in the new cemetery at Pleasantville, Iowa. The sorrowing family has the sympathy of the readers of the Journal.
