Harry L. Godwin Dies in Albany

Harry Lester Godwin
(September 25, 1893 - May 31, 1966)
A well known Albany flower enthusiast, Harry L. Godwin,72, 1409 N.E.Sherman, died at 5:10 a.m.today of a heart disease. He was in the Sunset Manor Nursing Home at the time of his death.

Although Mr. Godwin lived for a number of years in the Salem and Crabtree areas, he had lived in Albany since 1935. He was born on September 25, 1893 in Iowa.

He was a foreman at the Northwest Poultry plant when he retired in 1958. He was a member of the Santiam Cactus and Succulent Society and the Willamette Valley Peony Society. During World War II, he was in the Home Guard.

Mr. Godwin married Hazel L.Bates on April 20, 1915, in Vancouver, Washington. She survives.

Other survivors include three children, Mrs.Deloris Keebler of Albany, Robyn Godwin of Salem, and Mrs.Fern Bratton of Ontario, Ore.; a brother,Ralph Godwin of Albany; five sisters, Mrs. Lola Attridge of Agate Beach, Ore.; Mrs. Wilma Petrie of Portland, Mrs. Golda Vehrs of Portland, Mrs. Harriett "Rose" LaVillette of Seaside and Mrs. Helen Robson of Anchorage, Alaska; and eight grandchildren.

A daughter, Genevieve Godwin, died in 1939.

Funeral services will be at 2p.m. Thursday in the Fisher Funeral Home with Rev. Morton L. booth of Westminster Presbyterian Church officiating.

Burial will be in Willamette Memorial Park.
