Charles Dexter Caldwell, 45, Rock Island, Ill., died at his home Friday.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lon Calloway of the Christian Chapel Assembly of God officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon Wednesday until time for services. Pallbearers will be Robert McGavock, Frank Fortney, Ray Saunders, Don Christian, John Wayland and James Fenton.

Survivors are his widow, Louise Caldwell, of the home; three sons, Charles S. Caldwell, Hollywood, Calif., and Michael Caldwell and Shelly C. Caldwell, both of Columbia; a daughter, Mrs. Sharon Perkins, Hartsburg; a step-daughter, Mrs. Carolyn S. Cole, Pleasant Valley, Iowa; his father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. Shelly Caldwell, Branson; a sister, Mrs. Evelyn Harmon, Ashland; a grandson and three step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother, two brothers and one step-brother.

Mr. Caldwell was born Nov. 21, 1926, in Columbia, the son of Shelly D. and Mabel Hoffman Caldwell. He attended Columbia Public Schools. Mr. Caldwell moved to Davenport, Iowa in 1966, then to Rock Island, Ill. in 1968, where he was employed by the Bear Manufacturing Co. as a milling machine operator. He was a member of the U.A.W. Local 1351 in Rock Island. Mr. Caldwell was married to Mrs. Louise Kinder Davis on April 4, 1965.
