DIES TUESDAY AT LOCAL HOSPITAL
Lingering Illness From Gangrene Causes Death Of Civil War Vetran.
Daniel P. Harshman died at the Jay county hospital tuesday evening at seven o'clock. Where he had been a patient for nine weeks suffering from gangrene of the foot.
The deceased was a son of Jacob H. and Sarah "Vance" Harshman. And was born in Randolph county. August 28,1844. Practically his entire life had been spent in this county. Residing at Collett for a number of years.
He was a vetran of the Civil War. Serving with a unit of the Independent Volunteer Infantry.
He was preceeded in death by his wife. Emaline Harshman. November 19,1923. He is survived by the following children;
Mrs Samuel Kerns,Jay co. Mrs Charles Brigner of Texas; Mrs. Charles Welch of Portland; William Harshman of Collett; And R.D. Harshman of Kansas. There are twenty Nine living grand children, and Ten great grand children.
Two sisters also survive they being, Mrs Cass Walker of Washington D.C. and Mrs Elizabeth Shaw of Redkey.
The body was removed from the hospital to the Baird funeral home where it was prepared for burial and taken to the home of the daughter. Mrs Charles Welch of 120 East High Street afternoon.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the East church at Collett Rev J.H. Nall. pastor of the portland U.B. church officiating. Internment will be made in Green Park cemetery.
