The first break in the home circle, another home robbed of its choicest treasure, another chair vacant, another mother's voice is hushed in silence and can speak no more sweet and conforting works to the loved ones, another husband's life made lonely and dreary.
The first grief is more bitter by far than any which come after, but not altogether bitter though very hard to bear. A tenderness, a clinging to those who remain enters in as a partial compensation.
Louise Bottorff Campbell, daugher of John L. and Mary Bottorff, was born near Martinsburg on March 8, 1852 and died at her home, east of Martinsburg March 24, 1933 age 71 years and 6 days.
On October 4, 1893 she was united in marriage to Dan Campbell, to whom she has been a loving companion until death. To this union were born 3 sons and 1 daughter, Clay, Claude, Waldo Campbell and Hazel Warren all whom reside in the immediate vicinity of their childhood home, and as a result of the training and example of that mother, the memory of whose good life is now to them thier most precious legacy, they are reckoned among the best and most prosperous citizens of the community in which they live.
She was a faithful mother to her own children for at the age of 16 her loving mother passed away and the responsibility of her father's home with a younger brother were left to her care.
She also leaves 5 grandchildren who were the joy of her life, all of whom will cherish the memory of a loving grandmother.
Besides her immediate family she leaves one sister, Mrs. Allen Hawk, of Martinsbury and one brother F.O. Bottorff of Long Beach, California and a number of other relatives and friends.
She was truly a Christian in the full sense of the word. She was converted and joined the M.E. Church early in life and was ever faithful to Christ and the Church.
She died just as she lived, a kind, consistent Christian. She was conscious to the last and was able to converse with those about her though very weak.
Her affliction she bore with patience and she will be missed by all who knew her.
