THE PARIS NEWS, Mar. 26, 2003: 'Glasgow James Cotton, 87, of Paris died Monday, March 24, 2003, at Christus St. Joseph's Hospital South. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday, March 27, in the chapel of Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home with Dr. Randall Perry officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, at the funeral home. Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements. He was born July 16, 1915, in Cleburne County, Alabama, to Martin Edgar and Lavonia Stansell Cotton. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Opal Nela Gray on June 26, 1937, in Hugo, Okla. He worked for Merico Box Co. prior to his retirement. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, RSVP and was active in the Jolly Elders of the Pshigoda Foundation. He was preceded in death by six brothers, Earnest 'Bill' Cotton, Carlin Cotton, Blewett Cotton, Doyal Cotton, Forest Cotton and Murrell Cotton; and three sisters, Pluma Cotton, Florence Woodall and Thelma Cotton. Survivors include his wife, Opal Gray Cotton; two children, James D. Cotton and wife, Carolyn and Connie Cotton Brem and husband, Hugh; four grandchildren, Candi White, Jennifer Haynie and husband, Chuck, David Diaz and Delfin Diaz; and three great-grandchildren, Jack Haynie, Lacy White and Colby White. Pallbearers will be David Diaz, Delfin Diaz, Glen Gambill, Bob Hardy, Chuck Haynie and Gary Ballard. Honorary pallbearers will be the Senior Men's Group Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church.'
