OBITUARY OF MRS. J. R. McMILLEN

The Methodist Church was filled to overflowing on last Friday afternoon at the Funeral Service of Mrs. J. R. McMILLEN, who passed away Thursday, April 28, at her home in this city. Many were unable to get inside the church building. Mrs. McMILLEN and her family have been prominent citizens of Ochiltree County for over thirty years.

Mary Ellen THOMAS was born November 14, 1856 in Collins County, Texas, and at the time of death was well past seventy-five years of age. On July 17, 1873, she was united in marriage to J. R. McMILLEN, who passed away on October 07, 1928. Eight children were born to this union, seven of whom survive, all of them being with the mother during her last illness. The children are: G. N. McMILLEN, Wichita Falls, Texas; W. M. McMILLEN, Lindrith, New Mexico; H. A. McMILLEN, Agate, Colorado; Mrs. J. B. WILLIAMS, Miami, Texas; and W. E. McMILLEN, Mrs. Ruth THOMPSON and Mrs. Jas. E. BARBOUR, all of Perryton. Two sisters also survive: Mrs. G. T. ROGERS and Mrs. S. B. MURRELL of Gatesville, Texas. Seventeen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren are left to mourn the departure of their grandmother. Two nephews were present at the Funeral, L. B. THOMAS and son, Clay, Amarillo; and C. B. ROGERS of this city.

Mrs. McMILLEN, when a girl of thirteen became a member of the Presbyterian Church, later joining the Methodist church. She was a devout Christian and lived the true life of a church member. She was the first president of the Aid Society of the Methodist Church, when it was organized at Ochiltree years ago, and was also the first secretary of the Women's Missionary Society of the same Church. At the present time one of the circles of the society of the Perryton Methodist Church, the Mary Elizabeth, is named for her, Mother PERRY and Mother CUTTER.

The McMILLEN family moved to this county on March 03, 1901, and were pioneers in the conversion of this great fertile plains county from a cattle land into a rich farming empire.

Pastors J. W. Hendrix and J. E. Eldridge had charge of the funeral services. Active pallbearers were S. S. MALLETT, B. L. BARNES, S. F. WAIDE, Dr. J. H. SIMS, C. E. WHIPPO, and J. W. RICHARDSON. Honorary pallbearers were Mesdames J. B. CONLEY, W. H. LUSHER, M. L. NORRIS, J. W. RICHARDSON, J. M. NORTH, J. C. BEEVER, E. L. WHIPPO, J. J. LONG, F. P. ABNEY, J. H. SIMS, J. T. GUTHRIE, Grant SUITOR, F. C. SPENCER and Theo. H. PICKLE.

Special and beautiful vocal selections were rendered by Mrs. O. H. Blank, Mrs. Wm. Foglesong, Mrs. Ralph Trower, Mrs. G. Ward Moody, Addison Cutter, M. W. Truax, Omar Truax and J. Malvin Jackson, with Mrs. C. E. Whippo at the piano. The remains of this grand old lady and mother was laid to rest in the family burial plot in the Ochiltree Cemetery.
