OBITUARY OF J. R. McMILLEN

J. R. McMILLEN, age 75, one of the pioneers of Ochiltree County passed away Sunday morning at 1:20 o'clock at the Shattuck hospital where he underwent a major operation two weeks ago. Mr. McMILLEN had been in failing health for several weeks.

Funeral Services for the deceased were held at the Methodist Church, Monday afternoon, October 08, at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. E. C. Raney conducting the Services. Appropriate music was furnished by: Mrs. Carl Ellis, Mrs. Charles Whippo, Dewey Allen and Addison Cutter, with Mrs. W. Wilson at the piano.

The honorary pallbearers were Ed WHIPPO, W. H. RICHARDSON, T. W. MEAD, B. S. ELLIS, J. W. BEEVER, and John STUMP, J. H. SIMS, and William GLASGOW. The active pallbearers were Jack ALLEN, W. B. IRVIN, C. W. CALLAWAY, Clyde COFER, J. W. RICHARDSON and Charles WHIPPO.

James Riley McMILLEN was born November 19, 1851 in Collin County, Texas. He was married Mary Ellen THOMAS, July 17, 1873. To this union were born eight children all of whom are living except one who died in infancy.

The deceased was converted and joined the Presbyterian Church at the age of nineteen, later transferring his membership to the Methodist Episcopal Church South, in 1840.

He is survived by his wife and seven children: G. N. McMILLEN, Wichita Falls; W. M. McMILLEN, and Mrs. Ruth THORNSON, Lindrith, New Mexico; Mrs. J. B. WILLIAMSON, Mobettie; H. A. McMILLEN, Sandoval, New Mexico; W. E. McMILLEN and Mrs. James E. BARBOUR, besides seventeen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The deceased has lived in Ochiltree County for over a quarter of a century, coming here from Coleman in 1900. In 1907, he moved to old Ochiltree, and then to Perryton when the town site opened.
