Minnie Beth Hicks

Minnie Beth Hicks, 79, of Wells was born January 14, 1930 in Wells, Texas, the daughter of the late Mary Augustus (Gee) and Carl Crawford (Cook) Smith. She passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2009 in a Lufkin hospital.

Mrs. Hicks was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. She enjoyed ranching with her husband, listening to music and dancing, and especially enjoyed spending time with her great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Hicks was a member of First Baptist Church of Wells. She loved her church and was a Sunday School teacher for many years.

Survivors include her daughter, Gerril E. Bartlett of Wells; daughters and son-in-laws, Phyllis and Travis Corbin of Wells, Amy and Mark Henderson of Lufkin, Kim and Phillip Dew of Forest; 14 grandchildren; 16 great- grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Carol Wilbert and Sandra Smith of Forest; brother Farril D. Smith of Alto; sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Bill Driggers of The Colony; special niece, Frances Petty of New Braunfels; a number of nieces, nephews and other family members.

Mrs. Hicks was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, John M. Hicks in 1999, and her son Jeffery Hicks in 2002.

Pallbearers will be Kip Smith, Wendel Smith, Billy Joe Fiedler, Joe Hodges, Clay Johnson and Chris Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons and her nephew, Ross Hicks. Expressions of sympathy in Mrs. Hicks memory may be made to the Mt. Hope Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 901, Wells, TX 75976; the Rube Sessions Memorial Library, P.O. Box 120, Wells, TX 75976; or to the First Baptist Church of Wells, P.O. Box 491, Wells, TX 75976.

Graveside services for Mrs. Hicks will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, October 23, 2009 in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Wells, with Reverend Horace Fletcher and brother Josh Luellen officiating.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
