Funeral services for W. J. ("Uncle Billy") Boyd, age 85 years, who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Douglas, near Chilton, were held at one o'clock Sunday afternoon.
Last rites were conducted at Union cemetery with Masonic honors accorded at the grave by members of the Chilton lodge.
Services were in charge of Rev. R. M. Sheppard, pastor of Little Deer Creek Baptist Church, of which deceased was a member, and Rev. A. G. Barrow, Baptist pastor at Chilton.
Mr. Boyd was a Confederate veteran, had been ill for some time prior to his death at 4:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon. A native of Mississippi, deceased was born near Macon in that state. He came to Texas in 1872, locating in the Durango section of Falls county where he resided the rest of his life, being engaged in farming pursuits. He was a Baptist and a Mason and held the esteem of many friends.
Twice married, Mr. Boyd is survived by five daughters, Mesdames Addie Boyd, Whiteface; J.H. Douglas, Chilton; W. P. Smith and R. P. Davis, Lott; and Lester White, Briary; and six sons, J. W., Tell; C. M., Rosebud; H.A., Lott; T.H., Arlington; E.C. and J. T. Boyd, Chilton.
