I've been researching this family for years. If you are related, I'd love to hear from you.

The Old Regular Baptist Chruch-Thorn Township, Perry County, Thornville, Ohio, was built on an acre of ground given to them by Henry Bowman. He was one the first settlers in Thorn Twp., then in Fairfield Co., Ohio. The first person buried in the cemetery was child named Israel Penrod. The first preachers were Rev. Kaufman and Rev. Eli Ashbrook. The first members were: Adam Boatwright, James Smith, Samuel Hite, Stephen Smith, Rev. Wm. Karr, Jacob Balsly, Rev. George Debolt and others from the community. It was later known as the Union Baptist Church. Jonas Grove rebuilt the church after it was destroyed by fire. I under stand this building was torn down by a neighbor in the late 1920's to be used for siding on his barn. The church stood about where the tool house now stands.

Susan Griffin, second wife of Rev. Wm. Karr is buried in this cemetery along with several of their children. This researcher did locate this cemetery several years ago and it was almost in complete ruin and most of the gravestones were broken or missing. Some along the back area, away from the road were still there. I was able to find one Karr stone for Susan, how lucky was that?
