CALLAO, Missouri -- Evelyn M. Tompkins, 89, a former resident of the Muscatine area died Sunday, September 17, 2006, at Samaritan Hospital in Macon, Missouri.

Funeral Service will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, September 22, 2006, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Muscatine, Iowa.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, September 21, 2006, at the funeral home.

Evelyn was born on June 17, 1917, in Lusk, Wyoming, the daughter of Giles Guy and Carrie Elsie Browning Smith. She married Rufus E. Tompkins on August 6, 1932, in Aledo, Illinois.

Survivors include her husband, Rufus E. Tompkins of Callao, Missouri; four sons, Richard ?Dick? Tompkins of Conesville, Iowa, Arthur Eugene Tompkins of Georgetown, California, Robert ?Bob? D. Tompkins of Centerville, Iowa, Guy O. Tompkins of Sterling, Colorado; one daughter, Mavis J. Tompkins of Callao, Missouri; 27 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four great great-grandchildren and one sister, Delores Hansen of Tipton, Iowa.

She was preceded by her parents, and two brothers, Verle E. Smith and Lester Smith.
