Gospel preacher listed in Preachers of Today, Vol. 1, 1952, 238.

After running a really great race, John Morgan crossed the "finish line" for which he'd been preparing his whole life. He died after a brief illness on December 11, 2011, at the age of 79. John was born in Uvalde County, TX, to William Xenophon and Rhoda Ella (Deck.) Morgan on June 1, 1932. The family moved from his childhood home to San Antonio, and eventually settled in Abilene where he graduated from Abilene Christian schools and later got his BA in education from Abilene Christian College. After graduating from college, he accepted a teaching job in Coolidge, AZ, and met and married Mavadine Cummins, the woman who for 57 years, he learned he couldn't live without. To subsidize a teacher's salary, he began preaching part-time for small congregations and ultimately changed careers to full-time ministry, including positions in Liberal, KS; Ballinger, TX; Roscoe, TX; & Farmersville, TX. John and Mavadine finally retired and moved to Snyder to be near family, but John slipped out of retirement to preach part-time in Ira, and for the past 12 years in Hermleigh. He was preceded in death by his father and mother; brothers, Bill & Ellmore; sister, Jessie Winans; and grandson, Zayden Morgan. Survivors include his wife, Mavadine; a brother, Clyde and sister Ruth Goodman, both of Abilene; sons, Keith and wife Rita of Abilene, Rand E. and wife, Maggie of Longview, Rick and wife, Brenda of Ft. Worth; daughter Mevlyn Moudy and husband Tim; seventeen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, and many wonderful nieces and nephews. There will be a family visitation Wednesday, Dec. 14 from 5 - 6 p.m. at the Wright Colonial Funeral Home in Snyder. The funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the 37th Street Church of Christ in Snyder, TX. The family wants to add how humbled and honored they've been at the overwhelming expressions of kindness.---Sweetwater Reporter, December 14th, 2011
