John Casey was born in Canada January 7, 1843, died at his home near Lockridge, OK, March 2, 1911.
At an early age he moved to Clinton Co., Iowa, and later to Falls City, Neb., where he was united in marriage to Margaret Tighe on March 4, 1869. Ten children were born to this union, five sons are still living. The only daughter was Mrs. Nellie Sheehan, who died three years ago.
In the year 1891 the deceased moved to Oklahoma and settled on a farm near Lockridge where he resided until death. He enjoyed good health up until last December when he was stricken with heart failure, but for the past three weeks had been greatly improved and his relatives had great hope for his recovery. On the morning of his death he was feeling better than usual when he went to his bedroom and fell over dead.
During his long residence in this section the deceased became widely known and highly esteemed as a neighbor and citizen and his sudden death causes expressions of sorrow from all who knew him. Besides sympathizing friends the deceased leaves a widow and five sons to mourn the loss of a devoted husband and kind parent. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Barry of Atchison, Kansas, and twelve grandchildren.
The deceased was a devout Catholic and the funeral services took place from St. Patrick's church near Lockridge Saturday at 10 o'clock. Mass being celebrated by Rev. Father DeVarra of Edmond. An eloquent sermon was delivered by Rev. Father Goetzinger of Kingfisher, formerly of Edmond. The pall bearers were old time friends who had been neighbors of the deceased since their boyhood days in Canada as follows: T. E. Cashman of Cashman, James and John Murphy, Cornelius Sheehan, Morris and William O'Brien, all of Lockridge. Burial was in the parochial cemetery nearby.
