Manning was born June 16, 1908 in Rocksprings, Edwards, Texas , to Benjamin Butler Burris and Claire Lou Axson Burris. His brothers were Malcolm and Marvin Burris. Little sister was Emma Dean Burris. His G Grandfather is Joseph E.T. Burris buried in Vance, Texas.
After his father and the family moved to Phoenix, Manning began employment with the Mountain Bell Phone company. Growing in his knowledge and position , he remained with the company for 50 years. Some of the early switchboard systems he helped install and suppervised.
His personal hobbies were his deep interest in wood work, building things, tennis and hunting. His early talents in the old fashioned "ice Cream makers" delighted the family in get-to-gethers.
He loved to recite stories, poems and especially jokes in the evenings under his patio, which entertained everyone.
His niece remembers well the fine times.
Memorial was in Phoenix after his death. Ashes scattered by family as per his wishes.
