Hilda 'Kay' Kathleen Christiansen was the 4th child born to Peter L. Christiansen of Denmark and Agnes Rosabelle Bradshaw Christiansen of the Brittish St. Vincent Isle.
She was born on St. Thomas and grew up knowing the island life style. Her father was the Electrical Engineer for the West Indies Trading Company and installed the first Electrical plant there.
After USA purchased the West Indies, her family decided to become naturelized US citizens. In April 1927 on the ship 'Chilie' she arrived with her mother and younger sister. The family then settled in Arizona where an older brother had become a engineer.
She finished school at Hayden and Phoenix and went on to hold a position with Mountain Bell Phone Company in Phoenix. She was one of the very new switch board operators.
There she met and married her husband, Manning Lawrence Burris , on Nov 9th 1936. Manning remained with the telephone company for fifty years in Phoenix, Arizona. He learned and designed some of the early switch board contolls and grew with the company.
Her two sons were born very soon after her marriage and in the new home Manning built, she became a full time Mom.
She was surrounded all her life with a magic, a loving personality, and deep sincere friends and family ties.
She was, in spirit, a second mom to her niece Shirley and the two younger nieces.
In later life she held her wisdom, positive thinking and warm outreach to people.
Truly a special person!
