RUSSELL CARDELL – ELYSBURG
Russell Cardell, 79, Elysburg, died last evening at 6:30 in gold Star Nursing Home, Danville R.D., where he had been a guest three months. Death terminated an illness of one year.
Born in Elysburg, July 22, 1890, Mr. Cardell was the son of the late William E. and Lillie A (Crowl) Cardell. He was a farmer and attended Shamokin curb market 60 years.
Mr. Cardell was married to the late former Mary Rinehart who died December 22, 1927. He attended Elysburg schools and was a graduate of the Business College, Norristown.
Mr. Cardell was a member of Jacob’s United Church of Christ, Reed’s Station, and was a former member of the church council. He was secretary of the cemetery association for many years.
Mr. Cardell was deeply interested in the care of crippled children and was chairman of the Crippled Children’s Society and honorary member of the Central Pennsylvania Crippled Children’s Society. He was honored two weeks ago with presentation of a plaque for his service to crippled children. He also was a member of Elysburg Rotary.
Survivors include one son, David R., Elysburg; one daughter, Mrs. Zane G. (Ruth) Kaufman, Lock Haven; two granddaughters, and one sister, Miss Vera Cardell, who resided with Mr. Cardell since 1927.
