DAVID R. CARDELL, 89, PAXINOS
David Russell Cardell, 89, of 1023 Shamrock Road, Paxinos, passed away Monday, May 8, 2017, at the resident of his niece.
He was born Dec. 15, 1927, in Sunbury, a son of the late Russell and Mary (Rinehart) Cardell. On June 23, 1955, in Williamsport, he married the former Helen Ammerman, who survives. They celebrated 62 years of marriage together.
David was lifelong resident of the Elysburg/Paxinos area where he had a farm, along with jobs with Reed & Kuhn bridge construction and as a bus drive for Southern Columbia.
He was a 1945 graduate of Ralpho Township High School, where he played soccer for the Bull Dogs. He served in the Army during World War II.
David was a member of Jacob’s Church, the Elysburg Rod a& Gun Club, the Bloomsburg American Legion, and the International Harvester Collection Club. He was the first recipient of the Ralph Township Citizen of the Year award.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Tracy and Jeffrey Heath, of Coal Township; one sister, Ruth Kaufman of Lewisburg; and nieces, Amy and Susan, and Mrs. Joyce Sheetz, of Paxinos; and great-nieces, Hope Sheetz and Michelle Donchesky and husband Lee; sister-in-law, Martha Ammerman, and brother-in-law, Robert Ammerman.
Funeral services will be at the convenience of the family with burial in Northumberland Memorial Park.
