Gladys was born June 8, 1907, at Wibaux, to Ella (Victor) and Edward Smith. She spent her early life in Wibaux, where she attended school. Gladys was a hard worker and loved horses and the outdoors. In the late 1940s and early 1950s, she worked at the Simplot potato processing plant in Burley, Idaho.
She married Marion Christensen in Jackson Hole, Wyo., in 1952. The couple moved to Ennis and worked for several ranches. They retired to Waterloo, buying the schoolhouse which was converted to their home.
After Marion's death in 1983, Gladys spent a short time in Corvallis, then moved to Whitehall. In 2002, she moved to Ennis.
Gladys' family were her many friends and her stepchildren: Frances Pearson, who preceded her in death; J. W. Billie (Marlene) Christensen, Hati Jo Robb, Carl (Donna) Christensen, Paul (Sharon) Christensen, Merritt Christensen, Garth (Shay) Christensen, Nick (Maggie) Christensen and Alice Christensen. There are more than 100 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Gladys was much loved by her friends and family.
Funeral services are 11:30 a.m. Friday from Scott Funeral Home at Whitehall. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Belgrade.
