John Dare was born March 12, 1848, on the Island, and departed this life on May 9, 1923, at his home in Marshall county, Ind., at the age of 75 years, 1 month and 27 days.
He spent the early part of his life on the Island, and while there accepted Christ as his Savior, and was baptised, becoming a member of the Island church.

He was united in marriage to Albina Devoe March 12, 1872. In a short time thereafter, they moved to Marshall county, where he has been a resident for forty-nine years. To this union were born eight children. Two of whom, Myron and Wilbert D., and the wife and mother, preceeded him in death.

He leaves to mourn his departure six children, namely: Charles L., Roscoe, Edward, Delbert H., and Mrs. Lizzie Ross, all of Walkerton, and Mrs. Jennie Byers of South Bend, a brother, Jacob, and a sister, Mrs. Robertson, of Walkerton, and a brother, William, of South Bend, with many relatives and a host of friends.
He was a devoted husband and a kind father, and highly esteemed by his neighbors and all who knew him.

Funeral services were held at the late residence May 11, 1923, conducted by Rev. Lower, pastor of the U.B. church of Walkerton. Interment in Woodlawn cemetery.
