Mrs. Mahaffey's death was sudden and was due to heart disease with which she was stricken Saturday morning. She had been in failing health for several months due to advanced age but was able to be up most of the time. Her death came unexpectedly.
Of Pioneer Ancestry.
Mrs. Mahaffey was born in Hawcreek township, the daughter of the Rev. Albert and Mrs. Charity Essex Carter, and her father was the first white child born in that township. Early in life she affiliated with the Little Sandcreek Baptist church and was faithful in her church work there until the church was abandoned ten years ago. She then placed her membership with the church here. Few people in the county had more friends than Mrs. Mahaffey by all of whom she was highly esteemed. She was also a member of the W. C. T. U. and the Clifty Grange.
Her husband died 15 years ago. Surviving is her daughter, Mrs. Morrison, two grandchildren, Ray Morrison, of Chicago, and Paul Morrison, of Evanston, Ill., and several nieces and nephews.
