Rose Ella Shaver, 81, died May 7, 2010, at Olathe Medical Center.

She was born Nov. 2, 1928, to Robert and Rose Christian in Atchison, Kan.

She was married to Dick Shaver on Dec. 31, 1947, at the Sacred Heart Church in Atchison. Most of her married life she was a stay-at-home mother and wife. She never missed a Little League game or a basketball game. In fact, she could have been a very good umpire or referee. She seldom agreed with the officials' calls, especially if they were against her sons, Rick and Ron.

She later worked for Cullerton Cadillac in Chicago and enjoyed the people she worked with. She dearly loved people and worked tirelessly at helping those who were less fortunate. She was a firm believer in being "my brother's keeper" and felt strongly that the more you do for others, the more God does for you. She was a very caring person and a tremendous listener.

After retiring and moving to Paola, Rose Ella and Dick became involved in the St. Mary's Food Kitchen to help feed the less fortunate. They were coordinators from Holy Trinity Catholic Church. She always felt a special peace to see the people get a good meal, especially the children. Mrs. Shaver was also involved in the church and a believer in the Perpetual Adoration Program at Holy Trinity for many years. Rose Ella and Dick moved many times during their married life and she always said that their last move to Paola was the best of all.

She was preceded in death by a son, Dean Richard; sister, Marjorie; and brother, Robert Lee.

She is survived by her husband, Dick of the home; sons, Rick Shaver and Ron Shaver; four grandchildren; and sister, Mary Mae Weber of Atchison. She will be greatly missed by her family.

Services were Tuesday, followed by burial in Holy Cross Cemetery. Arrangements were under the care of Penwell-Gabel Paola Chapel, 305 N. Pearl St., Paola, KS 66071

Memorials may be made to the Holy Trinity Catholic School.
