Chugwater News, Friday January 31, 1930

"John Wesley Williams was born in Packingham [Rockingham] County North Carolina May 19, 1956, was married to Ellen Clayton on Feb. 27, 1879. To this union four sons were born, two having preceded him to the great beyond. Nathaniel age 14, and Ralph, aged 28. He is survived by his loving and faithful companion and two sons, Robert of Chugwater, and Carl of Casper. He went to Oklahom in 1890 and was engaged in Mercantile business and stock buying and selling. He came to Wyoming in 1917, locating in Casper and resided there until 4 years ago when he came to Chugwater at which place he remained until the Lord saw fit to call him from this world, Jan. 26, 1930. He was confined to his bed the last five months of his life, and suffered intensely. He was a kind husband and loving father. He was a member of the Methodist Church in McAlester, Oklahoma, he was a kind, good neighbor and leaves many friends who will mourn his passing. He and his faithful companion lived together for more than 50 years. Funeral services were conduced last Tuesday at the Watson Funeral Parlors in Wheatland. Rev. J.O. Calvin M.E. Pastor of Chugwater officiating. Interment was at Wheatland Cemetery."

John Wesley Williams was born on May 19, 1856 in North Carolina to Robert A. Williams and July Ann Cummings. He married Ellen Louisa Clayton on Feb 27, 1879 in Forsyth County, North Carolina. John and Ellen had four sons, Nathaniel Sullivan, Ralph, Robert Clayton and Carl Clayton.
John was a rancher and, at one time, served as a US Deputy Marshall -Choctaw Nation/Indian Territory, Oklahoma.
