Mrs. Montes died Tuesday, December 26, 1995, in Oak Manor Nursing Home, Nacogdoches. Born Saturday, June 22, 1912, in Nacogdoches, she was the daughter of the late John Manchaca and the late Mrs. Lula Morey Manchaca. She was a member of Moral Church.
Mrs. Montes was retired as a seamstress at Mize Manufacturing Company after 48 years. She was an accomplished, self-taught seamstress, noted for her expertise in designing and sewing bridal attire, often making her own pattern from only a photograph or picture from a magazine.
She also drove the school bus for St. Ann's Catholic School for many years, being one of the first females to obtain a chauffeur license in Nacogdoches County. Because of her illness during the last two years, Mrs. Montes was unable to do the things she loved to do for family, church and many friends. However she never gave up trying.
Surviving are her husband, Steve Montes of Nacogdoches; daughters, Sylvia Shotwell and Linda Rusk of Nacogdoches; brother, Albert J. Manchaca of Nacogdoches; six grandchildren, Pam Y'Barbo and Janet Cranford of Nacogdoches, Gary Murphy of Arlington, Charlie Rusk of Nacogdoches, Patti Shotwell Kirby of Houston and Keith Shotwell of Nacogdoches; and ten great grandchildren, Janet Cranford, Amanda Y'Barbo, Crystal Y'Barbo and James Y'barbo of Nacogdoches; Chelsea and Emily Murphy of Arlington; Dana Kirby of Houston; Savanna, Ashlee and Dylan Rusk of Nacogdoches.
Rosary will be said in Laird-McGill Funeral Chapel at 7 p.m., Wednesday, December 27, 1995. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 27, 1995 in Lair-McGill Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Deep East Texas or Moral Church Building Fund. Laird-McGill Funeral Home will direct arrangements.
