Pvt., Co. H, 28th Alabama Infantry, CSA. Enlisted at Jonesboro, Ala., March 1, 1862 at the age of 51. His wife Permelia {Williams} Palmore/Palmer filed a claim for the soldier's effects on Aug., 8, 1863. Her pension application states Levi died at Murfreesboro Tennessee of illness. He is buried at Tullahoma, Tenn.

Regarding the spelling of his surname: Palmer was spelled phonetically for part of his CSA records. But it should be Palmer.

Regarding a middle initial for Levi. I have seen no documentation that Levi had a middle initial. However, someone started using "H" or "Hester" and it has been carried through by many people. Or maybe it was H for Hezikiah, after his father. But no records indicate he had this middle initial/name, not his military service record, census records nor his pension application. There are numerous Levi Palmer's and there is one with the middle initial H but is a separate person. A relation to any of the others has not been established. If someone has some documentation, then please contact me. Also, I have seen no documentation that his birthdate is 17 Mar 1811, therefore until written documentation is confirmed, that date is not shown.
